Peter puts Miles to the test, going off to Symkaria for a couple of weeks to help MJ with her work as a reporter there and leaving Miles in charge of protecting the city, leaving him as the sole Spider-Man in NYC for the first time. Miles reveals to Peter in the credits’ scene that he has gained spider-like powers after he was bitten by a spider that escaped Osborn’s personal lab. Additionally, we’re shown a teaser for the Symbiote in Osborn’s lab, where he has also kept Harry in a tank until he finds a cure for his illness. With the help of his new suit, Spider-Man defeats Doc Ock and takes the cure, but there is only enough left to save either Aunt May from dying or to replicate the formula to save everyone else.

Despite being awash with paramilitary criminal organisations, New York has never felt more toothless and dull. Dialogue has this odd faux-wholesome tone, like you’re trapped in a corporate training video—all careful politeness and empty one-liners. Even in emotional outbursts and tense confrontations, there’s no edge to anyone or any sense of an inner life. They’re so blandly nice it tips over into being unsettling—you keep getting that feeling like everyone’s waiting for you to leave so they can badmouth you behind your back. My hope for this sequel was that with the core action already perfected, there would be the space to improve on the wider formula, creating a more interesting New York playground. Instead, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 simply has more stuff—a bigger story, more pointless collectibles, sprawling skill trees, and double the Spider-Men.
The gameplay builds on the foundation established by its predecessors, with an emphasis on the multiple play styles offered by Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spider-Men. The game expands on their existing traversal and combat abilities, including new web-based gadgets and suits that can be unlocked through progressing in the story. It also introduces the former Spider-Man’s symbiote suit, granting Parker unique abilities from his previous playable appearance. On the whole it’s a tried and true set-up for a Spider-Man story—the perils of leading a double life, making sacrifices to do the right thing, all that jazz. Each game in the series has a main villain that is set up early in the game, and persists to the end.

Without warning, in seemingly undemanding scenes and without any preceding slowdown, the game simply gives up, citing only nonsensical display driver issues. Peter reunites with Harry and Mary Jane and attempts to return the suit to Harry, but it refuses to leave him; the three figure they need Connors’ help. While investigating Kraven, Peter discovers that Kraven is dying of cancer and is looking for someone who can give him a “warrior’s death” in combat. Peter manages to retrieve the serum from Kraven, who discovers the exosuit’s weakness to loud noises. After Peter and Harry synthesize an antidote for Connors, Peter locates him with Miles’ help and eventually defeats and cures him.
The game delivered thrilling action and stunning visuals, effectively bringing Peter and Miles to life in a captivating way. PC Purchase Perks include an Arachknight Suit for Peter and a Shadow-Spider Suit for Miles (with 3 color variants each), a Web Grabber Gadget, and +3 Skill Points. With a PlayStation Network account connection, players can receive two additional suits, the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit. The big twist in Spider-Man 2 is that… well, there’s two Spider-Men. Discussions regarding a proper sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man began during the game’s development, with open story threads for future titles being teased across both it and Miles Morales. Jim Pirri and Tony Todd join the cast as the voices of Kraven and Venom, respectively. Aunt May’s Grave can be found in the graveyard in the north-west corner of the map (north-west corner of Harlem district).
This section leads to one of the most brutal moments of the game, as Venom kills Kraven the Hunter by eating his head. Following this encounter, Peter is tasked to find where Harry ran off before Venom takes over the city with his Symbiote. A few missions later, Peter, with his symbiote suit, helps Miles Morales track down the Lizard, but the younger Spider-Man realizes that his friend is not quite himself. Peter goes to take down the lizard himself, and succeeds, but Miles is captured by Hunters, leading Peter to go to save him and vow to kill Kraven the Hunter. After this hunter base, players shift to playing as Miles Morales as he tries to track down priceless artifacts from the local jazz museum.
The middle section of the game is filled with many similar side quests, which help the player take a break after very tense moments. Following this mission, one of the most enjoyable missions of the game occurs. You can change the abilities from the “Abilities” Menu at any time for Miles. The easiest option for Miles is to play Mysteriums as they have lots of enemies.
